Donald Trump is quashing rumors that former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson is in his corner for the Republican National Convention.
Reports emerged Tuesday Tyson is one of multiple sports stars Trump’s campaign is eyeing for next month’s event in Cleveland.
Former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka, former Indiana University basketball coach Bobby Knight and NASCAR CEO Brian France were also mentioned as possibilities.
Tyson endorsed Trump last October.
“Let’s run America like a business, where no colors matter,” he said. “Whoever can do the job, gets the job.”
Trump, now the GOP’s presumptive presidential nominee, faced backlash for getting Tyson’s support during his party’s primary.
A super-PAC backing Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), for example, released an ad last April depicting Trump defending Tyson against accusations of rape. Tyson was ultimately convicted of the crime and served three years in prison during the 1990s.
