House Speaker Paul Ryan said Hillary Clinton’s handling of classified information was “reckless and downright dangerous,” following the release of documents detailing the FBI’s investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server while at the State Department.
“These documents demonstrate Hillary Clinton’s reckless and downright dangerous handling of classified information during her tenure as secretary of state,” Ryan said in a statement. “They also cast further doubt on the Justice Department’s decision to avoid prosecuting what is a clear violation of the law.”
The report released on Friday outlined the FBI’s interview with the former secretary of state on July 2, as well as other notes from the now-closed criminal investigation.
FBI director James Comey’s decision not to recommend any charges against Clinton, despite saying her handling of sensitive information was “extremely careless,” has led to scathing attacks from Republican lawmakers and GOP nominee Donald Trump.
“This is exactly why I have called for her to be denied access to classified information,” Ryan added.
