Donald Trump has no plans to use campaign contributions to repay himself for the millions of dollars he’s poured into his campaign.
An NBC News report published Friday morning suggested that the presumptive Republican presidential nominee could reimburse himself using donations from the hundreds of millions of dollars he plans to raise for the GOP. The report cites Trump aides who said they hadn’t discussed such a move but didn’t rule it out.
“I have absolutely no intention of paying myself back for the nearly $50 million dollars I have loaned the campaign,” he said in a statement to MSNBC. “This money is a contribution made in order to ‘Make America Great Again.’”
Trump has largely self-funded his campaign arguing that he’s a true political outsider who will only work for the American people because he isn’t beholden to big donors and special interests like “totally controlled” Washington politicians.
