A POLICE officer shouted “I think I shot that mother******, man” as a black teenager lay dying on the floor in front of him with gunshot wounds to his back.
From Express Newspapers:
Shocking video footage released by officials investigating the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Paul O’Neal in Chicago last week shows officers firing towards the youngster, who they were pursuing as they believed he was driving a stolen car.
The moment O’Neal is hit is not captured on camera but officers are seen crowding around the young man and handcuffing him as he lies face down with blood soaking through his t-shirt.
Three officers have been stripped of their police powers after it was determined they may have violated the department’s shooting policy.
The victim’s family was shown the horrific footage on Friday and said they were “very hurt” by it.
Sister Briana Adams said: “Words can’t describe how I feel at this moment or how I felt when it happened. But I really want everybody to know that Paul was loved by my mother, his family, me.
“That he was everybody’s best friend. He loved to keep smiles on everybody’s face, joking, playing basketball.”
Police were chasing O’Neal as he drove a Jaguar convertible, which had been reported stolen, through the city’s South Shore neighbourhood on the evening of Thursday, July 28.
The video shows officers following the vehicle as it speeds through the streets and flies through a stop sign before smashing head-on into another police car.
The occupant jumps out of the car and runs into the garden of a nearby house as officers chase him, at least one firing a gun.
They then surround him.
