The video opens with Chiwetel Ejiofor, who was nominated for an Oscar for his role in 12 Years a Slave, admitting he’d never made a safety video before.
British comedian Asim Chaudry, whose character Chabuddy G stars as the video’s “director”, quips: “Well this could be your big break, OK mate? So don’t mess it up”.
Unsurprisingly, he nails the “audition” on his first go, but Chabuddy G writes him off as being “a bit of a show off” because he didn’t need the autocue.”
Chef Gordon Ramsay then reads a remarkably clean script that includes words like “darling” and “sweetie” while delicately placing a petite handbag under a seat. Then he realizes his part was written for someone else, and he goes off his chops in the manner we’ve all grown to love.
When Thandie Newton tells viewers how to find the exits, the director can’t help but gush over her performance.
“No seriously, that bit about the nearest exits? Really powerful,” he says.
Sir Ian McKellen appears along Warwick Davis, who played Professor Flitwick in the Harry Potter movies, to demonstrate the masks.
Jim Broadbent, who was Bridget Jones’ dad and Inspector Frank Butterman in Hot Fuzz, demonstrates putting away tray tables before landing.
“Genius! Look, I’ve got goosebumps,” Chabuddy says.
“I suppose it did have a certain je ne sais quoi, thank you,” Broadbent replies.
Gillian Anderson, of X-Files fame, closes it out with the brace position.
“Great, very intense. I love the soured face,” Chabuddy directs.
